Hi Folks,
I'm booking flights to India today and have been offered a good price, but the flight doesn't arrive in to Delhi until 11pm at night.. Is it pretty easy to get a taxi at that time of night to a hotel?
we're backpacking, so we're watching our money etc, but if it's likely to be a problem I may well get a different flight.

Been there only once so i dont know much about it but i am pretty sure that
it is hard to avoid getting a taxi at the airport in delhi. They are wery determined to get you into a car. The taxi offices outside the main door on the left is supposed to be serious companies.

Have a nice trip and try to be patient with them!!!!!

You will be fine. 11pm is almost still rush-hour!

I had the same problem this time last year so booked my first couple of nights accommodation at The Smyle Inn In Delhi and all that went fine, They also arranged an airport pick up and everything was ok and the price was Exactly what was quoted on the net !!

11pm is not an odd hour as far as Delhi is concerned. There are some flights tht arrive at 2am too!! So no worry on the availabilty of taxi. There is a prepaid taxi counter.You tell them the area or the location of the hotel and you pay a fixed charge.This is better incase your hotel doesn't arrange a pick up.

If your hotel can arrange a pick up for you, it's the best even though you pay a bit higer amount because it is hassel free,sure and safe too.

As already mentioned finding a taxi is not a problem 24 hours a day in Delhi.

The problem at the airport is not getting pressured into one that is a scam. Do not be loured by ones that want you to walk to a private car or away from the terminal. They are "taxis", and will get you to where you want to go safely, but they will charge you ~double the standard fare since they do not use the meter and use a pre-calculated inflated cost.

Hi - If your hotel doesn't have free pickup (likely if you're backpacking), take the pre-paid taxi! It won't be that expensive and you'll know that you're safe and not getting ripped off! Enjoy!

booked the flights last night from my local airport - which saves all that travel to London (and cost).. really looking forward to India!! we're doing the northern part of India for about 2.5 weeks - so now looking forward to planning the trip :-)

To be redundant, most international flights arrive late at night/early in the morning. There will be plenty of cabs, but go to the government certified (?) "taxi" window at the airport and get a voucher, rather than going with one of the guys who just try to get you to go with them. In any event, agree on the price first. It would be good for you to know where you are going to stay BEFORE you arrive, although there are people inside the airport arrival lounge that can help you if need be.
