| Chiang Mai | river cruise Posted: Tue January 1, 2008 05:03 AM UTC
Coming to Chiang Mai in March! Are there any good river cruises? I'm bringing my daughter and she loves boats! Maybe with lunch or drinks? Length of cruise? Thanks again-Darla

I don't think you'll mistake the Mae Ping for the Deschutes because it's not a very pretty river, but the cruises are okay.
------ I just did a simple search, and I hope this will help: To feel the essence of Chiang Mai, take a cruise along the Mae Ping River. An exotic boat takes you to a traditional farmhouse where kitchen herbs, fruit and vegetables are grown in the garden. The trip takes around two hours, with fruit and drinks provided. You may also opt for an enticing evening dinner cruise (6.30p) where you can relish your meal as you relish the setting sun. Boats leave from the pier at Wat Chai Mongkol on Charoenprathet Road (THB300 for a round-trip cruise), or from The Riverside Restaurant, every hour between 10a and 3 (THB100).

Hey, I'm impressed that you know that the main river through Bend where I live is the Deschutes! Are you an expat??? Might have to meet you for a beer (Singa of course!) to get more info about Chiang Mai-staying at the Chiang Mia Plaza- OK place to stay?? Needed a place with a pool Thanks Darla

Darla:
I'm a Pacific Northwest guy and have been living in Chiang Mai since August 2005, and I'm always up for a Singha. ---- The Chiang Mai Plaza is a VERY LARGE hotel, with a good location, with a very nice pool area, and I think good value for the money. The ONLY downside I have about the hotel it has about as much Thai'ness as a VERY LARGE hotel at PDX, which is to say, not much. But when you reach the sidewalk, there's no question you're in Thailand, and that's a VERY GOOD thing!! ---- I think the best place to check for hotel reviews is a site called asiarooms.com, and here are the generally good reviews for the CM Plaza. http://www.asiarooms.com/thailand/chiang_mai/chian khup khun krup, jon
