Tulum Tulum with children

We are looking at a trip to Tulum some time in March 2008 with our two children ages 6 and 18months We've not done much traveling as a family and we'd like some advise about where to stay on the beach. Are there any places available with kitchens that aren't too expensive? If not in Tulum are there other places in the region that you'd recommend? Thanks!

I jsut returned from Playa Del Carmen and Tulum last week and just spent some time in some very rustic cabanas on the beach. They are very basic but you cannot beat the location. There are not cooking facilities but there is a very tasty and inexpensive restaurant on site. The cabanas are $30 USD per night for basically a big free standing room. Toilet and shower are shared. They are located on the road that leads to the back of the ruins. The name is Mar Caribe cabanas and the restaurant is Don Prieto. There is an excellent new taco stand on the main road as you enter Tulum. It is the first retaurant on the righthand side, with red chairs and tables, called Urge tacos. Very, very fresh and tasty and cheap. Fish tacos are $1.50 USD. If you are not into camping/roughing it.....I know people who stayed at Esmeralda and Diamante
resorts. I do not know what they are charging now, but I beleve they are fairly affordable. The cabanas are Mar Caribe could be a fun adventure and they are located RIGHT on the beach. Have fun and good luck !!

www.mexicancarribean.com - this website will provide you with a list of cabanas in Tulum and what they offer both in price and convienences like a kitchenette for example. One tip I have is after deciding on a cabana I would then google it and see if there is a way to book directly through the cabana which will save you money as the above websites charge the cabanas for reservations made on their site which of course gets passed on to you. Tulum would be an excellent choice for young children as the beaches are not crowded so it should be easy to keep track of them. Be sure to take advantage of the grocery store you will see when you arrive in Tulum on route 307. They sell styroform coolers and ice so you can save on beverages which are exorbitantly priced at the cabanas. Plus they seel plenty of fresh fruit and baked goods so you will save a bundle on food. Feel free to email me directly if you have any other questions.
