| Pearl River | Canoeing on the West Pearl River Posted: Sat December 29, 2007 05:00 PM UTC
I recently purchased a canoe and would like to take my 9 year old son on a canoe trip on the West Pearl River near Slidell, LA. Can anyone tell me about anything about canoeing this strech of the river. Is the current too strong to paddle upriver? Are there any hazards I should know about? Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks Mark |

I live about 2 hours west of Slidell. If the rivers there are like the rivers in this area, the current is only strong in deeper rivers, and then only deeper down (with the Mississippi being an exception). The rivers here are rather sluggish, given the flat terrain we live in. Canoeing ia pretty popular because of this :)
