St. Thomas 4 nights and 5 days - first anniversary
Posted: Thu December 27, 2007 04:32 PM UTC
Hi guys,

Would like some feedback on how best to spend time in St Thomas,St Johns & St Croix. We are planning a trip in Feb for our first anniversary. Is it peak or off-peak season? Heard Marriot n Wyndham are good. How far are they from the beach?
Looking for something romantic but would also want to do something adventurous during the day.Like the top 10 things to-do list.

Do they have island hopping ferry services? My husband and I are not into swimming. Is it even worth the trip? What other activities do you think we might enjoy.

And do you know any travel agents who might cut out a good deal for us? Waiting for some great responses.
Thanks

Feb. will be in high season. Cold-weather months in the Northern Hemisphere always are prime time in the Caribbean and other warm destinations.

Yes, there is ferry service. From Charlotte Amalie (the capital) you can get the ferry to St. John, and also from Red Hook, at the eastern end of the island. There's also service to St. Croix, home of the famed Cruzan brand of rum. Of the 3 major islands, St. John is the best and most unspoiled. Also look into going to the British Virgin Islands.

I have a few St. Thomas/USVI/BVI tips, etc., with photos, at my home page.

Wyndham is good. Marriott good. Bolongo Bay is also highly rated. There are many choices. To avoid the hotel scene for a more personal, romantic DIY experience, consider renting a private condo or villa. Here's one; I know the owners and have stayed there myself: http://www.stthomas-condo.com/

It's challenging but certainly not impossible to find activities not related to swimming and waterborne activities. I suggest studying the options available thru the official (and some unofficial) island guides; start here: http://www.usvi.net/. Consider requesting a tailored package of suggestions and recommendations for your interests and needs. One option: rent a vehicle and explore the island(s). Some ferries carry autos. Just remember, drive on the left. Or rent bikes, if you're into that. But bear in mind, roads are narrow, twisty, and not particularly smooth.

You could go with a travel agent, but often, in this Internet age, your own research may yield better deals. The big boys such as Orbitz, Travelocity, Priceline, as well as lesser known but maybe even better ones such as Kayak, cFares, Bookingbuddy, &c. can come up with good packages. Homework pays off!

hello,
you can also go horseback riding or play golf, do a submarine trip ( no need to swim) or go to Coral World and sea the marine life (also without getting wet) hike St John and visit some old rum factories... You'll be plenty busy, you can also go for a day sail trip. check www.stthomasthisweek.com as a reliable source.
