thanks for your info on oslo and longyearbyen.very helpful
i think there is a direct flight to tromso from london ,starts march13.

i am taking my gilfriend on this trip and staying at the radisson sas polar, i have many trips planned, for me,.my question is would my girlfriend be ok just to chill out a bit at the hotel or walkabout at a few shops in town, as she is not really activity minded.
she is excited about trip and looking forward to husky sledding , but will she get bored over4 days?

cheers andy

Norwegian has had direct flights Stansted - Tromsų since December, but only a few days per week. (On other days you'll have to fly via Oslo Gardermoen)

Quite a bit of info on this website: http://www.svalbard.net/

I haven't been to Svalbard - but there isn't a whole lot to do in the "town". I don't know your girlfriend;o) - so I can't tell whether she'll get bored - but if she's planning to stay at the hotel when you're out and about then she'd probably better bring a couple of good books...
