| Havana | Travelling to Cuba Posted: Wed December 26, 2007 03:39 PM UTC
Hi everyone!
I am planning a trip to Cuba the end of March and still have not decided on the places which would be must see when there. So far I know for sure I will go to Havana first, then to Vinales, Trinidad, Baracoa, Holguin. What else would be recommended to see? Perhaps I missed someting very important! I would also love to spend some time on the beach (couple of days)and I am sure that I dont want to go to a big hotel place like Varadero, I would like to find less crowded place and not so touristy....can anyone recommend me something? Thank you! Laura |

Hi Laura,
When you in Havana you can go to the nearest beach santa maria..its very nice..also there is a nice beach near trinidad...you dont need to go to Varadero. Have fun..

Just back from a few weeks in Cuba...Trinidad was amazing, great food, great homestay and the photo ops are everywhere. Havana was great but a bit busy. Loved Vinales valley, too...quaint and small, but fantastic if you love nature. Varadero looked pretty for a beach resort but it was extremely windy when we arrived and we decided not to stay, as we couldn't enjoy the beach. I'm sure it's fun when the sun is shining and the wind stops!! The Viazul buses are clean, modern, cheap and comfortable for transportation. We travelled primarily by Viazul bus and taxi.
We had very good luck with homestays, averaging about 25 CUC per night for 2 of us. I may be returning in March myself, I loved it so much !! If our paths cross it could be fun to travel a bit together !! Please feel free to ask if you have any specific questions you would like answered !! Ciao, Linda

Just got back from 3 weeks of Cuba. Amazing country! My favourite parts were Vinales and Baracoa, I see that you are planning to do them as well, great! Visit the surroundings of Baracoa like the Parque Humboldt, Boca de Yumuri or Yunque, for its splendid nature. If you don't have a rental car, these excursions can be easily booked at the Cubatur agency. The guides are really good.
If you want a nice beach, which isn't too touristic, you can go to Cayo Jutias, about one hour from Vinales. Almost nobody around and a beautiful beach. Cubanacan organizes a day excursion from Vinales. I heard that Cayo Levisa is also good, but I didn't go there. Another place which I liked very much was Camaguey. Have fun!
