Hello,
We're planning a trip to Kyrgistan,Tajikistan and China next summer (july-august 2008). Two questions: Is it easy and possible to cross the border from Kyrgistan to Tajikistan. Is it possible to cross the border from Tajikistan to China as a tourist. Thanks |

Hi Hans,
I can only write about the crossing north of Karakul (TAJ) to Sary Tash (KIR), along the Pamir Highway. This is easy, the Tajik border post people are friendly and it was no hassle (August 2006). We also got our stamp "leaving TJ" into the passports. The Kyrgyz border post was sleepy and we didn't get an entry stamp into our passports and also not a day later in Osh. But if you travel the other way round, it won't be any problem. At the time of my travel (summer 2006), the border crossing Tajikistan-China east of Murghab (and the shortest distance to Kashgar) was not possible for tourists, only for Tajiks and Chinese. I doubt that it has changed. The reason is maybe related to the special status of Tajikistan's Pamirs. Crossings from Kyrgyzstan to China are possible. Ingrid
