| Varadero | lost and found Posted: Wed December 26, 2007 12:33 AM UTC
I forgot two boxes of cigars on my departure from Varadero. The hotel manager found them but says that cigars are not allowed to be sent by regular post. Is it true? If yes, how can they be brought to Toronto, Canada? Would anyone who come back to Toronto be willing to bring them to Canada?. Thanks for any info.

Have you offered to send the manager money for postage and then some more once you have received them safely - I suspect you may get a more positive response. Was he suggesting that they were sent by 'special post' and that this would cost much more?
There are customs restrictions on the number of cigars you are allowed to take out of the country - a maximum of 23. This might mean that you have to pay a customs fee on the parcels.

Thank you for the info.
The Mgr did not suggest anything - in fact he wrote that the Post does not send cigars.I will suggest your idea. Are you sure about the limit of 23 pieces?

I am certain about the limit, as it seems such a strange number when boxes of cigars contain 25.

Thank you again - you have been very helpful. I will post later the outcome of my situation. It could be useful to others.

The limit of 23 only applies to cigars for which you do not have a receipt. If you have a proper receipt then the limit does not apply. This is because so many cigars are sold at cut price on the black market.
