Oh sorry. This is my first post, so i havent gotten the hang of it..

Situation: 4 girls touching Belgium ground at approximately 2230 (it got postponed from morn to 2000 but it will definitely be later than 2230 because ryanair will definitely postpone the flight again for some dumb reason)

I think the trains/busses/shuttle would probably be closed. It's not safe to be dumped at the train stations in Brussels at tht time of the night (we'll pobably reach by midnight)

We plan to leave for Ghent very very early the next morning.

Is it still advisable to travel to Brussels-> Ghent or go stay the night and travel to Ghent from Charleroi?

Any suggestions?

Thanks a million!

Zoe

Latest shuttle from Charleroi to Brussels is at 23.30 hrs.
See http://www.charleroi-airport.com/doc.php?nd=1101&tid=101&site=1&lg=2
Specifically mentioned on this website is the shuttle Charleroi-Bruges where it says the shuttle will wait until the last flight is in. That could also be the case for the shuttle Charleroi-Brussels.
To save time you can book tickets online at
http://www.voyages-lelan.be/xml/page.html?LANG=uk&IDC=72

For safety I would take a taxi to your hotel in Brussels.
If all else fails, you could take a taxi to Brussels at
http://www.charleroi-airport.com/doc.php?nd=143&tid=43&site=1&lg=2

Or book a night in Charleroi (take a taxi there):
http://www.charleroi-airport.com/doc.php?nd=147&tid=47&site=1&lg=2
and leave for Gent the next day by train.

My own experience with the shuttle is good, save for one occassion when I left Brussels TO Charleroi, the bus left about 45 minutes later than planned. I did make it in time but it had me worried!

"It's not safe to be dumped at the train stations in Brussels at tht time of the night (we'll pobably reach by midnight)"
Firstly, if you are on the 23.30 bus you won't reach the Gare du Midi until 00.15. Secondly, I have been at Gare du Midi several times at that time of night and it didn't worry me in the slightest: with one exception (someone parking a car early in the morning) all the incidents I have heard of there happen when there are lots of people around, e.g. during rush hours, that is what thieves and pickpockets thrive on.
The last train from Bruxelles-Midi to Gent St. Pieters tonight (don't know if tonight is when you are arriving but it is likely to be similar tomorrow night) is at 00:32 (arr 01:11). If you miss it or don't want to arrive in Ghent that late, I would advise you to stay the night at the Ibis Hotel next to either Charleroi-Sud railway station (10 minutes by local bus, I think 68, from Charleroi Airport, or taxi) or the one next to Gare du Midi - unfortunately, right the other side from where the airport bus arrives: you would have to go into the station by the Air France office and walk all the way to the main concourse then turn right and walk the length of the main concourse following the signs to Avenue Fonsny, the hotel is right across from the Ave. Fonsny exit.
In case you want to phone either of these in advance:
Ibis Brussels Centre Gare Midi: Rue d'Angleterre 2-20 - 1060 Bxl, Tel : (+32)/(0)2/541 4444
Ibis Charleroi Centre Gare: quai de Flandre, 12 - 6000 Charleroi, Tel : (+32)/(0)71/206 060

Yes there is, but the last train on Jan 1st looks to be leaving at 22.26 hrs from Charleroi. It's a 1 hr46 minute ride.
If you're thinking of taking the shuttle to Brussels, then it is a tight schedule also because you arrive at Bruxelles-Sud, then you need to take a train to Bruxelles-Midi and from there the train to Gent. For you the latest train to Gent from Bruxelles-Midi leaves at 00.32 hrs on January 2nd and it's a 39 minute ride.

Now, another option is to take the shuttle from Charleroi to Brugge because it passes by Gent. The only thing you need to find out if that shuttle does any stops, specifically if it can drop you off in Gent. I've already told you that this shuttle always waits for the last plane to come in.
Put your question to the shuttle bus company:

Train service: http://www.b-rail.be/main/E/ (English scheduler)

Hello!

In my opinion definitely the best choice is charleroitransfer.com This is the official minibus company at Charleroi Airport. It's really cheap (18 euro) and you get the same comfort as from a taxi. It is also very quick, the minibus leaves the airport right after you sit in.

Earlier I used the coach for 11 euro, but it doesn't worth. It happened that I had to wait 50 minutes for the departure in the busstop... So I rather pay these days 7 euro more and enjoy the comfort.
