Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Colombo Colombo to Sigiriya
Posted: Sun December 23, 2007 10:19 AM UTC
Hi,

I was wondering if someone could give me any advice on how long it would take to get to Sigiriya from Colombo please ?? Could I do a day trip to Sigiriya and fit everything in comfortably or would I really need to stay overnight there ??

Also, in terms of getting there, what would people recommend as the best way of doing it ... hire a taxi driver personally or go via an organised tour ?? Do organised tours actually just do trips to Sigiriya or do they want to include Kandy/Pinnewala/etc too (which I don't want as I saw them last time I was in Sri Lanka) ??

Thanks in advance for any help !!

Cheers,
Darren

Hi,
It's take normaly 4- 5 hours drive from colombo to Sigiriya. If you want to climb its better to start early in the morning as it is hot during the day time.
so its better to stay there according to my experience.
Even you can go there by public transport. But I think its better to get a taxi. you can get it only for sigiriya. no need to do a organized trip. (organized trips are cheaper than one day tour. because they charge per day)If you need i can reccommned a good driver for you. Udaya.(udayatours@yahoo.com)

Hi Darren,

Yes, it takes about 4-5 hrs and you need at least half a day to do your site seeing, and I recommend that you stay at least one night or it might be a bit too hectic for you. You might be able to organise a guest house for about Rs.3500/- (USD 35/-)

I also suggest you hire a taxi as you will be more comfortable. You can hire a taxi only for your Sigiriya and back trip.

Have a great trip & wish you a Merry Christmas & Peaceful New Year !!!

Emile.
