Do not know about the busses very much as there are a lot of trains and with little trick the train price is competitive.
Relatively painless would be to buy Curtici-Budapest "there" and Loekoesháza-Curtici "back" train ticket. The reason for it, there is 50% discount from the regular international tariff for round-trip tickets. It is not advertised, but FYI: a Curtici-Budapest "there" + Loekoesháza-Curtici "back" ticket is considered to be a round-trip ticket. The price is 0.5 * (28.20 + 7) = 17.6 Euro. All else you need is to buy an Arad-Curtici domestic train ticket. Hungarian conductors are pretty strict about international passengers having international tickets, so you need to buy that ticket for 17.6 Euro. Given the many trains, to get to Budapest wouldn't be a problem with the train.
