There are 15 different towns called Villefranche. Which one are you visiting? What is nearby or do you have a postal code from your hotel perhaps? The last two digits of the postal code are the region of France.
Again, I'll suggest long-sleeved tee shirt, sweater, jacket and a raincoat. Then layer as needed. You should have pretty nice weather in mid-October anywhere in France.

Great; thanks. You will probably have really nice October weather in Villefranche-sur-Mer near Nice. You are on the Mediterranean and very near Italy. A light sweater or jacket is probably the maximum you'll need.
On the other hand, if the Mistral blows in, it can get chilly. We've only had that happen once and it was early November. Even then it wasn't bad unless you went further inland. We were spending a week near St. Remy and it was freezing and one day there were 90 km/hr winds. I loved it but I love wind and it wasn't blowing down my trees. If I were you, I'd plan on lovely weather and have an indoor day planned just in case you have rain or chill on one of your days. If you need to use it, you have a plan; if the weather is all good, you don't have to do any indoor activities unless you wish. BTW, the Museum of Modern Art in Nice is great fun and they have a garden on the roof with views forever. (good indoor activity except the roof garden)
