| Positano | Naples to Positano Posted: Wed December 19, 2007 06:27 PM UTC
What is the best way to get from Naples to Positano? Would it be by the Circumvensia to Sorrento and if so is there a train from there to Positano? Or would a ferry be better? Also what would the time frame be with either mode of transportation? Thanks in advance!

There's a bus from Sorrento (Circumvesuviana train from Naples) to Amalfi which stops at Positano.
Circumvesuviana timetables here: http://www.vesuviana.it/ Bus timetables here: http://www.sitabus.it/wps/portal/OrariCampania Bus journey takes around 40 minutes. You can also go by sea: http://www.metrodelmare.com/

The train bus trip is the most reliable. The pier at Positano is unsheltered and if the water is rough the ferry bypasses and goes direct to Amalfi. Then you have to get a bus back to Positano. This is not difficult because the bus stop is right there but is inconvenient. I think you probably get a better appreciation of the landscape from the bus than from way out in the water anyway. If it matters, the train stops directly at Pompeii ruins.
