I have an 11 hour layover in Colombo and would like to go into town. How much would the fare be for a taxi from the airport to town? If I hired a driver for the day, what would the cost be?

About Rs 2,500 is the current one-way price.
For a full day, including some short transfers in Colombo between shops, would probably be around Rs 4,000-4,500. After all this way the driver avoids the risk of an empty return.

One-way can be arranged easily from the taxi desk at the Arrivals hall. For full-day you need to walk 30 meters further, down the corridor towards the exit. Here are 2-3 desks of tour agencies which can arrange this service; they might not have a car waiting outside but then available on-call in maybe 15-30 mins time. Prebooking with a tour agency of course is even safer.
