Hello,
I have arranged for a Sealink tour to Kangaroo Island the second week of January. With the recent bush fires, is this still safe? We could try to change our plans, but we leave for Australia this Friday. Thanks, Kara |

I have just read this link in the Adelaide Advertiser, the fires seem to be under control or out now.

I would say it is now very very safe. A fair area was burnt from all reports and the fires had an impact, but it is quite a big island.There is a lot of open farmland, beaches,cleared rocky areas, limited but well sited accommodation apart from all the bushland and Flinders Chase National Park. So even during the height of the fires safety for the human inhabitants was never really an issue. A little different for the wildlife however. There is certainly no need to change plans, unless they are changed for you for whatever unforseen reason. Relax and enjoy the trip across to the island and the tour of the island.Best wishes

You should go. The landscape a few weeks after a bushfire is just beautiful -- the earth and tree trunks charcoal black with vivid green of the new growth coming through. There is still plenty to see and Kangaroo Island is such a special place -- all the best of natural Australia in a small space. I hope you love it.

the beauty my have been altered but once the fire is under control, its just as safe as ever! the weather is even cooler meaning there is less threat of another bushfire, at least for now.
