Hi,

What time does the shops in Jiufen close? Is it wise to go there in the late afternoon?

Thanks!

Hello msspr,
the journey to JiuFen takes some time so you might want to make it your first destination in the morning.

I went to Taipei railway stn, took a train to Keelung, then changed to a bus. I started out just before 10am and reached JiuFen slightly before lunch. Going ard JiuFen can take about an hour or so, depending on weather and what you like to see.

Since it's winter, i think the sky gets dark quicker. My personal preference is to go the furthest place first then come back to the city.

Thanks gotravel123!

I was planning to go to Yehliu, Shifen, Jiufen and Keelung on the same day. But I guess even if I were to leave Taipei at 7am, I may not be able to go to all 4 places.

A visit to Chiufen can take up the whole afternoon, including your roundtrip from Taipei. I do not recommend that you take in so many places in one day. Chiufen old street has so many shops and you may want to savour the local snacks and delights or have tea in a teahouse overlooking the Pacific Ocean. There are also hiking trails aroun the vicinity of the Ruifang Scenic area so take your time to enjoy the rustic atmosphere of Chiufen.

u could take the direct bus at the MRT station chungshia Fushin directly to Jeifun, it costs you only Nt95. and one hour to there, i guess you could go off the bus at the Jiefen, spend one hour go shopping and eating foods. Then strongly comment you to JingGauShi(金瓜石)by walk or by bus again. 金瓜石 is an interesting place than Jiefen is. there is a beautiful view point could see whole mountain and pacific ocean at the same time at the bus termination.
Anyway, when u are planning to take the bus back to Taipei city again, it is better to get on the bus at the terminal stop nearby JingGauShi(金瓜石), then, there are abosolutely full seats to sit.
