| Salvador da Bahia | First time in Brazil Posted: Fri December 14, 2007 12:04 PM UTC
I am thinking of coming to Salvador during January, via Rio de Janeiro if that's a good idea.
I am planning this break following the breakdown of a 26 year marriage so want lots of advice including is this a good location if on your own. I would want to plan everything without the help of a travel agent so advise on flights accommodation etc would be great. I assume the climate is hot and sunny in January,is it expensive? my only other experiance ousite europe was India where I have spent a great deal of time recently. Any help and tips would be greatly appreciated. |

Here are some resources to start with.
best info on sights, music, food, etc. in Salvador, including accomodation: www.bahia-online.net Most tourist infrastructure is found inthe Colonial historic district of Pelourinho and the lively urban beach neighborhood of Barra. domestic flights: GOL www.voegol.com.br OceanAir http://www.oceanair.com.br/empresa/default_pers.asp TAM http://www.tam.com.br/b2c/jsp/default.jhtml?adPagi flights UK to Fortaleza (north of Salvador): http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thread.jspa? companies that offer/offered direct UK to Salvador http://www.firstchoice.co.uk/flights/index.cfm?startover=88515 http://www.thomsonfly.com/en/index.html Many of these folks stay at the all-inclusive Iberostar about 2 hours north of Salvador in the somewhat isolated (from the nightlife and music in the city itself) village of Praia do Forte. There are also resorts at Praia do Sauipe nearby. Otherwise, to meet other English speakers, stay at a hostel where there might be lots of other single travellers. Most Brazilians do not speak any English, so at least, bring a phrasebook. weather (temp. and precip. by month) http://www.v-brazil.com/tourism/bahia/weather-salvador.html 7 day forecast http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/83248.html Boa viajem.

Hi! I went 3 times in Brazil and each travel was done directly by myself...
The flight -as the first answer tell you- is quite easy to find, even if its a bit late for attractive prices-less than a month before traveling..- There are many options as a pass for inside flights...If you have to get in Rio, stay 3 days there...But Salvador is very interesting and different from all other main towns of Brazil. All the surroundings are very nice and some get unbreathless ( Itaparica, Morro de Sao Paulo, Praia do Forte) so spend there 576 days... Prices are for an European quite cheap... Have a nice trip...
