Is it worth going at chrstmas time? I mean is there alot more going on that would make it worth going then any other time of year?

They set up lights. That's about it.
People tend to go during Christmas because it's warmer than the rest of the country and they have vacation then. Nothing overly special that you wouldn't find in most other cities though. New Year's is really big in Vegas though, but you'd be hard-pressed to find a reasonable room this late.
