stuttgart-strasbourg Posted: Wed December 12, 2007 10:33 PM UTC
hi , i would like to pose a simple question, if someone could please answer i would be gratefull, this is very important to me: my plane arives in stuttgart and i really need to get to strasbourg by train , but i do not know exactly how and where to catch a train from. is there a train station inside the airport, or anywhere near it? And if not, how couldi get to the trainstation from the airport.
Does anybody know schedules for trains leaving stuttgart and headed for strasbourg, or maybe an internet link where i could find answers to all these questions?
thank you, and please help.

The trains depart about every two hours. The S3 & S2 trains connect the airport to the main train station.
Transit map here.

I know what "lostsooner55" has in his plans - it can be a very good idea, it is called "Rail & Fly". Since the price depends on the deal airline made with the rail, not much can be said in general. As an alternative, also "Baden-Würtemberg Ticket Single" could be good (or bad). We cannot say which is better because it as you may feel from Gary's question a lot depends on the airline and their deal with DB.
At least we know, there is a "Baden-Würtemberg Ticket Single" for 18 Euro (+2 Euro if from live ticket agent) and it is valid till Kehl. It is a "daypass" but it is valid on regional trains only, no long-distance train / = it is good, but no panachea/.

From this map:
http://www.bahn.de/regional/view/mdb/pv/planen_buchen/liniennetzkarten/2007/MDB37059-streckenkarte_bawue_100607.pdf
we can see, it is not valid further than Kehl. Same would apply for Rail&Fly Gary mention because it is valid till the last CITY (not the last point).
Hence your solution: buy either
B-W "Single" ticket (extra 2 Euro if from live agent) or the R&F.
and use till Kehl. Do not buy S-Bahn ticket: it will cost extra money but it's included in either B-W "Single" or R&F ticket. The train ticket from Kehl to Strasbourg is 3.90 Euro.
We do not know what is better, the B-W or R&F for you because R&F price depends on the deal your airline made with the railway company and B-W ticket is valid from 9:00 AM till 3:00 AM, so if your plane arrives in some ungodly hour or you want to use long-distance trains, B-W ticket is a bad idea.
Also R&F coupon has to be issued at the same time as your ticket - so if you already have the ticket, R&F is not an option.
