Lille Car Rental
Posted: Wed December 12, 2007 06:18 AM UTC
My Wife & I will visit Lille in April 2008.
We wish to hire a car and visit the war Cemetary wher my GGrandfather was buried in 1917 and were looking a renting a car for the day.
Average prices on the net seem to be 100 euro for a day which is extreme by Aussie standards. Is this normal or are their cheaper options available?
any advice would be appreciated.

cheers

I've just used a car hire search engine and the lowest quote is around 40GBP (60 euro) for a small car, from 9am to 5.30 same day. The larger the vehicle, the higher the cost. One day's hire will always be proportionately more expensive than several days/a week. Multinational chains are generally more expensive than national or local firms.

Try searching through a portal such as www.121carhirefrance.com You should be able to get something suitable for less than 100 euros (assuming you are happy with a small car).

100 Euros is rather on a cheap side for a one day car rental.

Are public transports not an option? €100 is really expensive for just a day's use, although it seems to be the regular price here in Europe.

Hi Mike, try Drive Away in Sy http://www.driveawaybookings.com/Default.aspx.
they should be able to arrange something for less than AUD100/day (but i don't know what insurance cover one gets for less than AUD100/day). We use Drive Away every 2nd year to arrange hire and or lease in France.
Other posters are right. The fewer the days the more expensive it is. You may wish to hire a car for a longer period and explore WW1 battle sites other than your specific cemetery. Are you going on the 25th, by the way? regards, pedro

Thanks to all for their replies.
Leics, have had success with the web site you suggested &
ranger will be doing a bit of driving, Ypres through to the cemetry ay "Outtersteene Communal Cemetry" at Bailleul, to Hazebrouck where we think he was killed in 1917.
Hope to spend the day in the area. Will do more digging about tours that take in this area.

cheers
