Ottawa Winterlude Question
Posted: Wed December 12, 2007 06:16 AM UTC
My wife and I are going to be in Montreal in February. We would be able to come over to Ottawa for one day of Winterlude which just happens to be the last day (Sun. Feb. 17). Is everything pretty much shutting down by then and all the attendees already been there and done that or do people still come out? I don't really want to have the place to ourselves. I want it to be a little lively.

It's always depending on the weather, but there is enough to do; see:

Can't do the contest. It's for Canadians only. Already saw this web site. I don't doubt there is a lot to do but at the end of the 3rd weekend, will there still be anyone still out doing it. I was there over Canada day and it was very lively because everyone is doing it at the same time but this drags over 3 weekends. So my question is at the end of the final weekend, will there be many people still out enjoying the festivities (weather permitting of course).

The only likely reason that you would have the Canal to yourself or any other venue is, as mentioned earlier, lousy weather.
Some years it happens that there is a February "thaw"...and ice sculptures and the Canal take a beating...if the weather is so poor the Canal is shut down...and the ice sculptures suffer horribly.Ice turns to slush!
At the rate that Winter has hit us this year it seems unlikely that there will be unseasonable weather this year but one never knows...
What activities were you thinking about particularly....theres always lots to do indoors if the weather is not co-operative!
Vendors and exhibitors participate as long as the event is running...until the end of the schedule...so as far as what you are able to do depends on the weather...
Come and see!

We try and escape getting Cabin fever as much as possible here in Ottawa! If the weather is good (heck, even when it's way too cold) people will be on the canal. Trying to enjoy it as best we can, before spring hits and we're left with slush. The outdoor hockey rinks shut door around the end of the month too.

Wolverine,

Thanks for chiming in. You answered some questions for me when I came on Canada Day. Had a great time and thanks for your input.
