| Beirut | Bruit to Jerusalem Posted: Mon December 10, 2007 05:55 PM UTC
Is there a way to drive from Beruit to Jerusalem. Is the boarder very dangerous? I'm a dark skinned American that has traveled extensivily, but could I make that journey if I had Lebanese friend drop me off and an Israeli pick me up at the border?
I would rather not fly, but I may have to. |

You cannot cross the border from Lebanon to Israel in any way. The two nations are in a state of war. You must go through Syria, to Jordan and then cross into Israel. The Israel Lebanon border and the Israel Syria borders are closed. It has nothing to do with the colour of your skin or your nationality. It is the sad state of affairs in the ME.

Would it be "simpler" to take a ferry from Lebanon to Cyprus, then take a ferry from Cyprus to Israel? I know nothing about this, so this is just guessing, but the overland trip through Syria and Jordan has the potential, I suppose, for long and un-anticipated stops, while if there is ferry service, the trip(s) would take longer, but perhaps would have less of a chance of a travel interruption...on the other hand, this may not be any cheaper than flying...what do you think - do people use Cyprus (or another eastern Mediterranean island) as a way around the border problem?

One can fly to/from Beirut and Cyprus and to/from Cyprus and Israel, but there are no ferries to Israel. There are some cargo ships, but that is all.
