TV, video (VHS): No, the US uses NTSC, Europe uses PAL television signal system.
Other appliances: check if it says 110-230 Volts, 50-60 Hz. In Europe it's 230 Volt, 50 Hz (USA: 110 V, 60 Hz). Mobile phone: check if it's tri/quad band. If appliances are "multi-usable" you only need to get an adapter for the socket. http://kropla.com/electric2.htm

Not only that but to go from 110v to 220v you require a TRANSFORMER, not just an adaptor (which applies merely to the type of plug - see types C and E on here http://www.travel-images.com/electric-plugs.html). Otherwise, quite apart from your television, your lamps are going to explode! Even without the transformer issue, adaptors are made for short-term use when travelling, so if you use these on a long-term basis for all your (non-transformer requiring) appliances your insurer won't pay out in the event of a fire.
