Nanjing Massacre Memorial Reopening 13th December 2007 Posted: Sat December 8, 2007 04:54 AM UTC
As the subject line says, the Nanjing Massacre Memorial will be reopening on 13th December 2007, after being closed for renovations for more than a year.
Nanjing Massacre Memorial official English-language website: http://www.nj1937.org/english
This date is the customary anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre, and 2007 will be the 70th year.
I have been to this memorial at least twice before it was closed for renovation. I can only say that it is a place that any visitor to Nanjing should definitely visit. It is a place that holds a special significance for Nanjing's history and also for China's; and even more so for the tens of thousands who lost their innocent lives there. It stands as a reminder to never take peace for granted; peace that has been only been achieved after the deaths and suffering of an unthinkable amount of people. This is a memorial for those who died wanting peace, but who were unfortunately unable to enjoy it, unlike us today.
A group of friends and I will be making a trip on Thu-Fri 13-14/12 from Shanghai. If anyone is interested in joining us, or is interested in going on a later date, please feel free to contact me for more information. Email directly at ellyse99@yahoo.com and put "VirtualTourist" and your own username in the subject line so that I know who you are, thanks.
