Helsinki Helsinki - talinn

Hi guys and girls,

I have a question for you. I'm coming to you Capital next friday. I'm staying untill monday. I would love to take a trip to Talinn. And that's where the question is for. Should I book this trip online or do you think I still have time to do it in Helsinki. I would like to go on Saturday, because on Sonday I'll think the shops are closed and Monday is my return date.

Should I book online or do I have time to book next friday for the day after. If you say online, do you know a good site. I found lindapilet (42 € returntrip) and nordic Jetline (56 € returntrip) Can somebody help me please.

It's not necessary to book at all, because it's low season of tourism and the ships are not likely to be fully booked. In case of storm the small fast boats may not departure. Fastest ship running between Helsinki and Tallinn all year round is Tallink Star, the trip takes 2 hours. Check http://www.tallinksilja.com/en/tab2/schedules/helTal/
for Tallink's schedule.

I'd book the trip online just because the price tends to be cheaper the farther in time you book.

The only site I know is TallinkSilja but you have to go to one of their "daughter" sites to be able to book. www.tallinksilja.com

Hello,
Today the fast ferries, including Linda line and Nordic Jet line didn't operate because of the wind.
I prefer NJL because its more expensive and that means the passengers are a bit more ...well, they don't drink that much.
But we do drink on board the ships.
Check pout the site for the Tallinn department store Kaubamaja (just google it) and I'm rather sure it's going to be open on Sundays.
There are SO MANY shops in Tallinn centre and one shopping palce for food etc near the harbour called Merekeskus. It's surely open on Sundays. (I'd go there to buy some drinks, even though the prices are about the same all around Tallinn). And I'm not a drinker, I don't like beer, and in my area the liquor store is less than 5 minutes away from me. Why on earth should I spend all the money on the so-clled cheap drinks if I can get what I need so close to my home?
But for treatment, like to have a hair cut or a perm or spend a day in a spa I'd go to Tallinn. Or in a good company to have fun and a change of place.
Tallinn is an interesting place to be, and I know for sure I will start travelling there next spring. To look around and to be a tourist.
regards,Soili from the south of Finland
PS I am sorry, I don't mean at all that you'd go to Tallinn to buy the drinks. But that's what my fellow countrymen do so much. I apologize.

Swedes do that too, so don't feel bad Soili. It's just what it is.
BTW, I think like you. The higher the price of the trip to Helsinki the less people drinking till they're drunk.

The Finns remind me so much of the Brits with going on drinking trips on the ferry.
Like ferries used to leave England from various places and just sail around in the sea all evening because the drinks are duty free - so have a party night - and then come back
When i was younger i used to be one of these heavier - but i dont know if i just got older or if beer is too expensive now.
I have been on ferries a few times between Finland and Estonia - the funniest moment was when there was some promotion on a Scotch Whiskey so they were giving people a free drink - some tourists from outside Finland may have been interested in buying - but it was comical how many Finns kept queing up - having a free sample - and then going back for another one (of course with no interest in buying a bottle) - and there were many people exremely drunk staggering about - but i just thought it was very funny.
I guess i must have been on the cheaper ferry.
I was quite young then - i felt tipsy and happy but not as drunk as the Finns. I just had a couple of Lapin Kulta or something.
