| Glasgow | Tour over Christmas Posted: Wed December 5, 2007 11:55 PM UTC
I am going to spend the holidays in Scotland and wondering if there are tours going over Christmas. I am thinking a 2 or 3 days highlands tour.
Thank you |

I doubt there will be any tours operating over Christmas itself (24th/25th/26th), and most tours do not operate in the winter anyway.
This firm offers tours all year round: http://www.timberbush-tours.co.uk/new_site/glasgow_tours/ Might be worth contacting them.

If you google "tours Scotland" you will find lots of info. However, having just done this research for tours in the Spring for a non-VTer, the following companies at least have tours over Christmas/Hogmanay and others besides:
www.wild-in-scotland.com www.macbackpackers.com www.rabbies.com Remember that these days will be short, as it gets dark early.

Very good question! I didn`t even think about this sort of ttour being available, although quite often travelling at that time of year can be difficult. My heart will be in Dundee on the 26th but that`s an addiction!

I decided to do the wild-in-scotland 6 days tour. It seems awesome. Now I have to shop for a good-comfortable-waterproof walking/hiking shoes. Have anybody took a tour with them before?

Wrap up well and be careful with the drinking. I think that taking Milk Thistle can help your liver to recover! :-)
You deserve decent weather, our winters have been milder recently but that could mean wetter and windier. If you are out in nasty weather you may wish to mutter the words,` ......god forsaken place` I hope you enjoy it!

That's great that you managed to book a tour. I was going to suggest a self-tour, so this is for any others searching for this information. If one was to book 24 hours in advance, contact Citylink busses and schedule yourself to get to Aberdeen (from almost anywhere) .... I went from Glasgow - Dundee - Aberdeen. I stayed at a B&B in Aberdeen and caught the city bus out to Braemar. There's a great place to stay called the Braemar Lodge Hotel and I know they are open up until at least New Year's day. There are all levels of walks in the highlands, using this as your base. The reverse bus trip would need to be done, as the city bus line ends at Braemar. If anyone does decide to do this, be sure to sit upstairs in the double-decker bus - a ride up there through the windy roads is better than going on a roller coaster. I remember the round-trip transport cost was no more than 30 pounds (28 comes to mind) and the Lodge was 25 pp per night with breakfast.
