I guess it might depend where in Aussie you are comparing to, but from what I've seen there is more choice in Aus, and so consequently prices can be better. For example, Kiwis tend to get excited about visits to places like Melbourne because of the shopping there compared to here. Yes, there are places selling plus sizes, there are specialist shops but also the mainstream shops often cater relatively well.

Christchurch must sees would include Banks Penninsula and the surrounding areas (Lyttelton, Diamond Harbour etc), the Botanic Gardens, the city centre (very compact) with the cathedral and Cathedral Square area, the shops and cafes at the Arts Centre (excellent if you can coincide a visit with one of the markets).

Just saw your question posted also in the Christchurch forum....if you were asking here for must sees in Auckland, then they would include the Viaduct Harbour and waterfront area, the Sky Tower, One Tree Hill and Cornwall Park (for views that easily rival those from the Sky Tower except they are free), Waiheke Island, Rangitoto and the Waitemata Harbour in general, Devonport with it's naval base and excellent cafes. Depends how long you're here for..
