Hi everybody...I would like to go to see Mt. Kili and not climb it. The reason for me is altitude; I climbed Mt. Whitney in California (14,495 Ft.) and I know for an absolute fact that getting to the top of Kili is not going to happen. I am in shape, but the altitude kills me. My question is...is there someplace reasonably close to Kili where I could get photos of it, including one of myself with Kili in the background? I am familiar with the Park entrance fees and would prefer to avoid them since I know I won't be climbing. Thanks for your help.

Just bookmarking because I want to do exactly the same thing and all I can find is climbing tours!

There is often cloud cover on the mountain, especially after around 7 am, so the best thing to do stay somewhere near a good view.

I traveled with VistaSafaris.com who arranged for me to stay in a Chaga village - the Chaga people are the people who live on the mountain. The morning views we got were spectacular.

There is also a good view about 20 km from Moshi on the Arusha road where you can see the full length of the mountain.

Its true you need not to risk as Kili is a higher mountain.If you go to Kenya,visist Amboseli National park.Kili is vible and the best place to have the backdrop of you and the mountain.
Still a nother suprise of the moutains and the elephant.
