Lake District National Park Where in the Lake District at reasobale rates B&B
Posted: Wed December 5, 2007 09:38 PM UTC
Hi, we would like to visit the Lake District for a 4 night stay in June 2008 but unfortunately we are the proud owners of 2 uni students, 1 apprentice and 1 child still at school so we are on a tight budget.
This would be a holiday for just us two adults. We would like to visit somewhere near cocklemouth in either a hotel or bed and breakfast.

I sympathise - we had six! Happily they are now better off than we are!

Hotel and B&B prices in the UK must be amongst the highest in Europe. Self Catering would perhaps be be a more economical option for you even for 4 nights - try googling "Cockermouth Self Catering" or if you really prefer try "Small hotels and B&B.Cockermouth"
Good Luck!

Cockermouth now has a Travelodge. If you can book early enough rooms are available from 29 pound. Does not include breakfast but you would struggle to get anywhere else for that kind of price for both of you per night. www.travelodge.co.uk to make your search & good luck. That's a great part of the lakes to stay in with some wonderful scenery.
A little tip : sometimes it pays you to search for 1 night at a time instead of attempting to book all 4 together, Darren.

Thanks for that. Prices are just perfect. Are you able to tell me what the surroundings areas look like from the Travelodge, hate to think we were on a main road. Also, are there any quaint little pubs nearby so that hubby and I can have a meal and a pint and walk back to the Travelodge.

Hi, Have just checked on www.travelodge.co.uk & unfortunately it's based at a motorway service area so maybe not what you are looking for. Cockermouth itself is not the prettiest area to be honest . Personally if you want to stay in the Northern Lakes i would look at the Keswick area. It's very beautiful around Derwentwater & has more attractions. Take a look at www.golakes.com for some inspiration, darren.

Might be worth looking through the list on the link above with a map at your side as the places listed - a mix of B&B, hotels and s/c cover quite a wide area.

Apologies that link i gave should have been www.golakes.co.uk . golakes.com is for something entirely different.

Hi
Just read your posting – My cousin has a Cumbrian Hill farm in Newlands Valley which is only about 10 miles from Cockermouth, She also takes in Visitors on either a B+B or Dinner B+B arrangement,
It might be Just what you are looking for :-)
Photos and contact details are on my Cumbria page under accommodation tips

I hope that helps a little
If you need more info then feel free to drop me another line

Happy Travels

What about a static caravan? Many are privately owned in owners gardens, others on proper sites.

Try a directory web site such as www.lakedistrictbedandbreakfasts.co.uk the advantage of these sites are that you can look at accommodation ahead of your visit.

Welcome to VT John.
That sounds like a good link for Lake District accommodation. It is a bit late for the person who asked the question - they were planning on a June 2008 holiday. But hang on to it -there will be others on the same topic once we get into spring.

A good selection of bed and breakfast accommodation can be hard to find when you're coming to the area from a distance. It usually means doing a web search for B&B in the area you're going to. This can sometimes be a long and laborious process, believe me I've tried it. There are a few directory style web sites that let you browse a selection on the bone site. A couple for that area are: www.iknow-lakedistrict.co.uk or www.lakedistrictbedandbreakfasts.co.uk I remember when my then fiance and I would travel the Highlands of Scotland and at the end of the day decide to look for a local B&B. Quite often it would take a couple of hours driving past prospective properties looking for a Vacancy sign depending on where we were and the time of year. Luckily we always managed to find somewhere in the end but the ability to browse ahead these days on the internet would have saved a lot of time and petrol in those days.
