| Moscow | Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport to City and New Year's Suggestions Posted: Wed December 5, 2007 03:39 AM UTC
Hi! My girlfriend and I will be visiting Moscow in late December and staying through New Year's.
First question: Can we take public transportation for the airport to the city? Our hotel is located at Olympiski prospect, 18/1 so a bus/metro/train that will drop us off close to the hotel will be best. Second question: Any recommendations for New Year's? Clubs? Red Square? Dinner? Any suggestions will be appreciated. Last: Is the metro a convenient and safe way to get around Moscow or is a taxi necessary? Thanks in advance! |

From SVO you can take the mini bus to the nearest metro station, Rechnoy Vokzal (green line on the North). The fee is RUR 50 (EUR 1.5) around for the person. The metro station that is nearest to the place you've mention is Prospekt Mira (the crossing of round brown and orange lines. so from SVO you get Rechnoy Vokzal first and then change the lines on Belorusskaya station). it seems there is Renessainse Moscow Hotel. if it is so, it is not far from the metro station and you can get it by walk.
On the Red Square there is NY eve show with fireworks every year. Although I am not the big fan of the crowdy places and can't tell you how it is. of course, you may go to the club or restaurant, but i think you have to book the place in the restaurant in advance (maybe your hotel restaurant will be open). in my opinion metro is safe (at least safer for foreigners than taxi to keep money) the metro is guarded by militia and the trains go every 2-3 minutes (5-7 minutes in early morning or deep evening)

Also keep in mind that it is difficult to navigate the metro without knowing Russian language or at least the Cyrilic alphabet.
I suggest going to the armory in the Kremlin. It is a different tour than the Kremlin tour which, of course, you should also take. Have lunch or dinner at the Pushkin Cafe.
