Hi we are travelling to Belgium this weekend and going to Bruges and Brussels. Does anyone recommend anything specific to do over there and where to go for the xmas markets. Are they on everyday? Also do u no if it is possible to get from Brussels International Airport straight to Bruges by bus or train or do u have to go in to Brussels. Thanks for any help

1) No you can't get to Brugge from Brussels Airport by direct train, you have to change at Brussels-North. Make sure you change onto one of the trains (which run every 30 minutes or so) going to Knokke, Ostende or Blankenberg which stop only at Gent and Brugge, and take one hour from Brussels; the trains that stop at intermediate stations take quite a bit longer.
2) The Winter (rather than Christmas) Market in Brussels is around the Bourse (stock exchange) and Ste. Catherine metro station, where the open-air ice rink is. If you are coming into Brussels from Brugge get off the train at the Central Station, walk down to the Grand' Place (5 minutes) and you will easily find it by the Bourse.
The one in Brugge is in the town centre - ice rink is in the Markt square - but note that there is also a snow and ice (sculpture) festival right next to the railway station.

P.S. I forgot. The Brussels Winter Market is on every day. The Brugge one I believe is closed on Sundays. You can google for this information, though I'm not sure how reliable it will be - Brugge manages to give its opening hours as 09:00 till 18:00 and 11:00 till 18:00 on the same page!

A good general link for the Belgian Christmas Markets can be found at: http://www.christmasmarkets.com. On the home page, type "Belgium" in the "Christmas Market Locator, 2007", block. Once you have that list, you can go to the applicable sites for more information on each of the Markets. Gary
