| Nerja | Day tours around Nerja Posted: Tue December 4, 2007 10:22 AM UTC
We are visiting Nerja for a week during the Christmas of 2007. Are there any interesting places near Nerja which one could visit on an organised tour? How far is Granada from Nerja? Can it be done on a day tour basis? Can some one recommend any reliable companies which operate sight seeing tours?

Hello - Yes, there are several places to visit in, around and not too far away from Nerja.
After you have explored all the town the nearest place to visit would be the Nerja Caves, only 1-2 miles along the main road going north from Nerja. A nice walk in spring but you may prefer to take a bus from Nerja Bus station in December! The caves are kept at an even temperature all year round and are open all year - but check about Christmas Day. Frigiliana - a small mountain village about 15 minutes by car or bus is very pretty. A bit touristy in parts but worth a visit. On a clear day there are good views along the coast. We have gone from Nerja to Granada for the day several times but have done it by car. I have always noticed lots of day trips by coach advertised -- the Tourist information Office at the Balcon will have details. It is well worth the trip - even on a summer day it can be cooler there than on the coast so wrap up warm and wear sensible shoes as there is a fair bit of walking. Enquire either at the Tourist Office or through your hotel about the need to prebook entrance tickets. When we went the first time there was a half hour wait and we had a look arpound the Alcazar whilst waiting to go in. For a cup of coffee in comfortable surroundings overlooking nice gardens call in at the Parador one morning - its a short walk from the Balcon. I hope this is helpful and that you enjoy your stay.

Hi, If you are interested in exploring some of the more local sights around the mountains etc then I highly recommend a jeep tour. If you visit the Life Adventure website www.lifeadventure.es this will give you some insight. It's a brilliant day out and very entertaining.
