If you'll post your interests, and what you consider to be "good warm weather", we can give you better feedback. Dallas can be uncomfortably hot and humid anytime from late April until late September. In that time frame, New Orleans will be only slightly cooler, but INCREDIBLY humid. Gary

I can't answer the question on cheap flights because the only time I have gone between Dallas and the UK was when I found a special deal online.
As for the weather, it is generally best in the spring or fall. My preference is April or May because the natural beauty of TX is best viewed during the season for wildflowers. Fall is usually dry and barren. The summer is hot and humid with temperatures around 35C (90-100F). It is honestly an unpleasant time for someone who isn't used to such high temperatures. Winter can be wonderful and warm, or cold. Temperature fluctuates very rapidly. New Orleans is a nice city, and I would consider going. However, you will have to fly, since it isn't that close to Dallas, and I don't know what kind of expense that would mean. It also depends on the time of year there, because the spring is very vibrant and fun, whereas the winter is a bit more slow. It is also incredibly humid there, so I would not suggest summer at all. Enjoy!

good warm weather could mean a wide array of things like stated LoL i live in dallas and i actually prefer the super hot 100+ degree dry humid weather that august brings out because i love to swim in it. but texas weather is very random. you never know what to expect. it could be pouring rain one day and sunny and perfect the next and then freezing rain the next. or it could all happen in one single day!
but typically it is pretty cold until about april/may when it starts to warm up. but there tends to be a lot of rain those months. june and july are nice and warm. and august it peaks. september and october it starts to cool off a bit but is still pretty warm. this year there was heavy rain almost every day up until july. just to give you an idea i was still wearing tank tops and flip flops in october and parts of november depending on if there were cold fronts coming through or not. so if you're looking for sunny hot weather great for swimming and other summer activities i would recommend july or even august if you like it extra hot. if you like warm weather on the more mild side i would recommend later in september or in october. or may and june if you don't care about the chance of rain. i've never been to new orleans and hear the only thing its really good for is mardi gras which can be a bit crazy but an experience but thats held in february when it is still very cold in dallas. it shouldn't be a very long flight from dallas at all, but do not plan on driving there. the drive takes a while since its on the far side on louisiana.

Everything is relative when you talk about the costs of flights from the UK to Dallas. If you equate cheap with your personal time, then the best bets are through AA.com and British Airways, as both have direct flights from LGW/LHR, and connections through STN. I have seen some incredibly low fares when the two war with each other over price. The least expensive I have been able to find was $250 USD plus tax (about $400 USD all in) for a return trip from Dallas to LGW.
As for a side trip to New Orleans, it really depends on what you are in town to see. If nightlife/party lifestyle is what you are looking for than New Orleans is your place. Cheap flights from DAL-MSY are typically found on SWA.com, or if you were really smart, you could book a LGW-DFW-MSY flight on AA.com, and just make sure you use DFW as your "stopover" city, and then it will not cost you extra from the original fare. As for the weather side of it, I would recommend the spring time, as the Texas wildflowers will be in full bloom... April would be a great time.

I always fly on American Airlines and find the prices to be around $400 or so.
A light jacket will be fine as the weather is not hot yet, but not extremely cold. New Orleans is an 8 hour drive from Dallas. However, it is only a 2 hour flight. Check www.southwestairlines.com for a $120-$180 ticket with a two week advance notice.
