Hi We were in Niagagra Falls on the 5th June this year on a coach tour. We stayed overnight in Toronto and then the next day went to Niagra Falls, a short trip, we were there in 1.5 hours but this included a 30 minute stop at the pretty village Niagra on the Lake , a few miles from the falls. When visiting the falls it is essential to take the ferry Maid of The Mist which goes within 100 metres of the falls, they provide raincoats. For the rest of it you can walk around , there are many areas where you can get a good view of the falls, There is also a Casino in the town which is worth a look , some nice shops inside as well.
Iam sure there would be a bus service, suggest you email your Toronto accommodation for the details. Good Luck, Mike

I agree, check with your hotel, they can probably tell you more, but you can take VIA train www.viarail.ca or greyhound bus www.greyhound.ca

Hi,
You can catch the Via train from Toronto to Niagara Falls for about $50. There is a train that leaves Toronto at 8:30 am and then the return train leaves at 5:45 pm. Once in the Niagara falls area, you can walk along the gorge and falls area and see the sites without having to worry about having a vehicle. You can check the train schedule at www.viarail.ca . There may also be a tour operated by your hotel so do check with them. It's pretty cold at this time of year so be sure to bring warm clothes. The blowing mist of the falls is definitely more refreshing in the summer. :-)

Coach Canada runs From Toronto to Niagara Falls and back.
I see you are coming from the UK. Make sure you bring your cold weather gear. We are in some real nasty stuff right now.

Take a tour out of TORONTO. I found a place just walking around DUNDAS street, they jump out on you with their signs. Go there and arrange for the next day. It's about an hour and a half ride, they are very good at telling you all about the falls ect...
They will take you to some wine tasting places too, a chance to pick up wines and souvenirs. You can take a chopper ride if you wish over the falls for extra bucks of course. You just walk around NIAGRA, you don't need transportation. Go to the Hard Rock Cafe, or Casino, and take the MAIDEN OF THE MIST boat ride to the falls which is included in the tour. I paid about 60 bucks per head, just me and wife. WELL WORTH IT! It will take you just about all day.

Sadly you will have to skip the Maid of the Mist Ferry that the others mentioned. It is closed for the season....
--BUT-- You can do The Journey Behind The Falls, which was always my favourite as a kid anyway! It's very cool to go inside and see and hear all of Niagara Falls go over your head, there is also a lower observation deck outside, so you get a good scope of the Falls! http://www.niagaraparks.com/nfgg/behindthefalls.php

Seeing the falls in the winter is a bit more exciting than a summer time visit ( except you miss the Maid of The Mist Ride). Cold and crispy and fewer people. The falls may not be iced up in Dec. but don't worry.
If you take a full day bus tour from Toronto ( as noted in a previous post ) they will stop off at some Niagara vineyards on the way back where you can warm up.

Highly recommend the tour behind the falls. When my friend was over in March of 2006 we were on a bus tour down to Niagara Falls, and since the Maid of the Mist wasn't running yet, we did the tour down below and both loved it. Very interesting, and fun... for a pair of middle-aged folks!
The coach tours certainly give you the chance to see the tourist-sites (and that is not necessarily a bad thing), which if you take a scheduled coach or the train, you would have to figure out how to get to on your own. In my opinion, worth the difference in price.
