I'll be staying in Amman for just over 3 weeks. As a western woman should I wear any traditional clothing whilst in the city or is my general casual clothing culturally acceptable?

I would say your casual clothes should be good enough.

I didn't feel I stood out wearing either business attire (skirt) in Amman or more casual clothing, anywhere in Jordan. Although I wouldn't wear anything skimpy anyway.

hi . i think that you will be free in what you want to wear and jordanian people knows that everyone has a special way . BUT i want to ask you from where you are? and are you coming alone to jordan?

amman is very westernized. we saw a lot of tight jeans actually and quite surprised. you should be fine. I wouldn't be weraing any mini skirts but normal casual clothing should be fine. I didn't really notice many spaghetti straps either.
