Mount abu is 185 kms from Udaipur, there is no Train service, you have to travel by private bus service ( approximately at 8.00 am or 3.00 pm from Udaipur)
or you can inquire at Government Bus Depot. Mount Abu is worth ezploring place, do visit my cybercafe opp. Arbuda Restaurant. Harpal

I did this journey in December and it took about 5 hours. There are major roadworks going on so it was quite a tiresome journey but once completed, the journey will be much faster (the road will continue to Ahmedabad in Gujerat I think). If your onward destination is not Udiapur, there is a train station at Abu Road, the rail head for Mt Abu. Mt Abu is quite a sweet place, sees very few western tourisits and no particular backpacker scene which is refereshing - mostly Indian tourists, in particularly Gujeratis strolling about eating candy floss, boating on the lake etc - all quite gentle and old fashioned. The Dilwara temple comples is outstanding althoguth I do prefer Ranakpur, and of course there are the Brahma Kumaris if that's your thing. Do try to contact a guy called Charles (you'll find his details in LP etc - runs Lakeview Cottage) -he can take you on treks in the surrrounding countryside, is very knowledgable and so sweet - one of the most honest indians i have come across.
