| Bhutan | Dzongkha language Posted: Sun December 2, 2007 02:23 AM UTC
Fellow travelers: I will be in Bhutan in March/April 2008. I have the Lonely Planet guide book but am looking for a Dzongkha language tape, book...something that will allow me to learn a few useful phrases and listen to the language before I travel. Yes, I know that most in Bhutan speak English...it's just something I always do when I travel. Thanks for any help you can give me. I have found NOTHING on the internet! WWpat

Hi. Yes there is a Dzongkha course, but it is a full length (3CDs and a book), quite expensive course. It is by George van Driem - check out this link: http://www.semioticon.com/people/vanDriem.htm. I purchased it before moving to Bhutan from the States and if I remember correctly had to have it shipped from the Netherlands. Anyways, good luck! Honestly though, the Lonely Planet guide is probably your best bet as it has most of the phrases you'll need. :) Cheers! Jamie
