| Philadelphia | AIRPORT TRANSIT Posted: Sat December 1, 2007 10:21 PM UTC
Travelling from UK to Acapulco via Philadelphia then Houston for overnight stay, before flying next day to join cruise ship. Does anyone know procedure regarding luggage at Philly. Will we collect it and then have to re-check it in for HOUSTON, or will US Airways move it through to next flight for us. Assume we will have to go through thorough immigration here. Any help appreciated.

Entering the USA at Philadelphia..You have to claim your luggage .
Your baggage should be checked to Houston. When arriving in Philadelphia .You then enter immigration.. Make sure you get into the correct lines ..US citizens ,EU and other... Have your Passport ready.. You then have to pass through US customs..After passing US customs you then just re deposit your luggage onto the US air luggage rack..US air has someone to help you... Now comes the bad part...You have to go through a security check point again .Duty free items should have been put into your luggage when you passed customs..Philadelphia will not let you carry on duty free items purchased over seas.. They will confiscate them... This may sound confusing ,But,it is easy... Us air also has a video on the tv in the plane explaining the baggage ,,Immigration and customs procedure..Watch it on your flight over.. Have a good trip

Your luggage will come off the plane, you will need to claim it for U.S Customs, after passing through U.S. Customs and Immigration, you will recheck it through to your final destination.

Sorry...Philly's not a great airport. You'll have to reclaim your baggage here since it's your first point of entry to the US, no exceptions (this might be ther US standard though). I just came back to Philly a month ago from Europe and thought it was really ridiculous to reclaim your luggage, continue on AND go through customs. Make sure you pay close attention to the people mumbling which side of customs is for US citizens and which is for everyone else as there are not signs telling you such.
