Panamá City Newbie questions on restaurants and taxi's , and a few others ...
Posted: Fri November 30, 2007 11:06 PM UTC
Hi all. I'll be visiting Panama city next week for the first time.

Are there any good seafood restaurants you can recommend ? Does not have to be pricey, I am more looking for fresh lobster, shrimps and fish dish. French, Italian ones ?

And which restaurants have the best city view at night ?

Also, from Panama city I will be traveling north to the Costa Rica . Other than bus, about how much it would cost if I want to take a taxi to the Costa Rica/Panam border Paso Canoa ? I know it won't be cheap like panaline, tica bus.

Thanks very much in advance .

Hi!
we are moving to Panama for good in 2 days!! :D
First of all recommend the Balboa Bay to sleep (we'll be there from tuesday night on), than to eat try the Costa Azul (Langostino alla Criolla is super) wigh is in the Via Veneto zone, in the road behind the Rey supermarket. It's open 24/7.

I don't know how much would take a taxi to the border but it's gonig to ber a lot...why don't you consider takinf a flightr from Panama city to David (www.aeroperlas.com or www.flyairpanama.com). David is near the border and there are direct buses.

If you go along the interamericana came and visit us in Playa Las Lajas (on the interamericana 60 km before David,. stop at the San Felix Cruice and take the road for the beach)...our place isn't fancy but you may find real italian spaghetti!!! ;D

Have a wonderful stay in Panama!!! If we can give some tips we are more than happy, in Chiriqui you should also visit Boquete with its coffee plantations and the volcan barù (at dawn you can see both oceans while standing on the same spot)

Cheers!!

Elisa & Massimo, thanks very much for your info. I for sure will try out Costa Asul as I love seafood.

I did try to book balboa bay by phone last night , but the lady there did not want to take reservation via phone , and she does not take credit cards, so no luck there. Seems like most budget places are rather full this week, ... I tried calling about 8 places and they're all full believe it or not ... ah well.

Thanks again for your info and all the best to you in Panama ! :)

Just got back , and to update ...

Costa Azul... simply yummy. The day we arrived, we stayed at the Riande Continental ( that's the only one I could find vacancy on the net for that Monday 2 weeks ago ) and Costa Azul is just half a block around the corner. Langostino Criolla was the first thing I tried that evening. My wife had the grilled Sea Bass. All were superb and at great price. We sat at a table close to the diners counter ... IMO it is a must visit if you're staying in the Cangrejo area. We actually went back a second time.

As for the transport question, we ended up taking a bus at the Albrook bus station. The bus took us to Paso Canoa, it's a 7 hour trip with a half way meal stop at Santiago. $14 per person.
