My parents are arriving by train to San Giovanni. Are there taxis waiting there or do you have to call for one? They are going to near Hotel Posta. Does anyone know how much that costs? Do italian taxis use meters?

Yes there is a taxi rank at San Giovanni train station and yes they use meters.
However, if your parents are reasonably fit they should be able to walke the 200 metres from the train station to Hotel Posta. Billy
