| Baltimore | Air Force Base to Baltimore Posted: Fri November 30, 2007 03:18 AM UTC
Hello Everyone! My parents are planning to visit family in Baltimore (Edgewood) using a military flight. They are older and not used to driving in different weather conditions (we are from So. California). I am worried about that. Is there another way for them to get to Baltimore from either Dover AFB or Andrews AFB? I am thinking that a cab would be too expensive. Is there some sort of shuttle service at a fixed price? Or maybe even public transportation? Thanks for any help that you can give.

I've actually been looking at this for you, but haven't come up with a good solution yet. I assume they are doing Space A travel ? In that case, they may not necessarily be able to fly in to Andrews or Dover. There also seem to be four listings for Edgewood in Maryland. You can e-mail me here on VT, and we can look for a solution that way. Gary

I know there is a limousine service at lodging on Dover and I believe they also "hang out" at the AMC terminal there. The last time I flew into to Dover I used them to get to Laurel and it was not that expensive, but that was a few years ago. With gas prices being what they are, that price may have gone up, but it was very convenient and a fixed price; not metered. I will check for you about Andrews.

Thanks you guys for looking into this. I guess since I will not be with them I am worried about what can happen.

I'm not sure when they are travelling, but you possibly could ask them to take a short "rehearsal" trip to a nearby base, that also has civilian air options closeby. That way they would get to see how the space A system functions, and whether it will meet their needs. Gary

If they are going to Edgewood, MD, then the only reasonable option without driving is Andrews AFB. From near the base, they can take the Metro to Union station in DC, then catch the Maryland commuter train to Edgewood. Do a search for MARC train on google.... Since it's a commuter line, it only operates on Weekdays. If they need to travel on the weekend, the Amtrak from DC stops in nearby Aberdeen...
Dover is nearly 2 1/2 hours from Edgewood....
