I do prefer Nov as all the trees colours would definitely have changed by then, all red, orange, very beautiful.

If you are going there to see the leaves changing colors, mid to late October may be the best bet. But popular sight seeing places and tourist attractions can be pretty clouded as many schools have field trip in October.

The best time for me is November! I was just in Kyoto last week and it is so beautiful. The colors of the maple trees are so beautiful and the weather is just perfect for walking. There is one thing to know- it is very crowded! But, that is kind of expected because this is the best time of year to go to Kyoto.
