Luang Prabang Bangkok to Luang Prabang

Hi there - Thank You for reading this posting. I'd like to know if there is a train journey from Bangkok to Chiang Khong (small Thai town bordering Huay Xai (Laos). If yes, can you book in advance before your trip? If not, then what is your recommendation? I plan to only stay in Luang Prabang and hope to include the two-day journey by slow-boat from Huay Xai to Luang Prabang.

Your kind feedback is appreciated.

There are NO trains that run from Bangkok to Chiang Khong BUT you have some relatively inexpensive options:
1. Fly a Thai budget airline [Nok Air or Thai Air Asia] to Chiang Rai and take a local bus from the Chiang Rai bus station to Chiang Khong, which will take about 2.5 hours.
2. Take a direct VIP sleeper bus from Bangkok's Mochit Bus Station near the Chatuchak Market to Chiang Khong.

The other option is to take the overngith sleeper TRAIN from Bangkok to Nong Khai which is the town across the Mekong from Lao's capital of Vientiane and then cross over Friendship Border Bridge. Then bus or fly to Luang Prabang.

If you're short on time, then your best option is to fly Lao Airlines of Bangkok Airwyas from Bangkok to Luang Prabang.
