Hello all!
Does anyone know how long it takes to travel from Mexico City to Oaxaca on the good buses? Would it be an overnight trip? Also, I'll be visiting with 3 other friends in late December. Is this a busy time and should we book hotel rooms ahead of time? We're not sure when we're arriving, that's all. Thanks beforehand! |

About 6 hours. This can be done at night, but the couple times I did this the swaying of the bus because of the mountain curves made sleeping very difficult.
Perhaps more recent road construction has made this less of a problem. Oaxaca is a favorite place for Mexicans to visit during the Christmas holidays. In the past reservations for this time of year could be important. This year foreign tourism has been depressed because of last years social unrest. The questions are whether this will be the case during the holidays? and whether this would have any significant effect on the availability of hotel rooms? The two times I spent there during these holidays the number of foreign tourists was a very modest protion of the whole. good luck, bob
