Re: travel from Santo Domingo to Haiti Posted: Mon November 26, 2007 07:45 AM UTC
I'll do my best to answer these:
Q: Do they run on Christmas and New Years Eve?
A: I doubt it runs on Christmas Eve because it's a "sacred" holiday and due to the length of the trip.
Q: How long does the trip take?
A: I can't answer that with 100% certainty but the fact that there's only one bus going to and from Haiti daily says that the trip takes say around 7 hours, (or that there's not much demand for a trip like this).
Q: Is there a baggage allowance limit?
A: Not that I know of, but I've never been to Haiti.
Q: Where do they leave from and arrive at?
A: I understand you leave from Caribe Tours' terminal on Ave. 27 de Febrero and you arrive in Port-au-Prince, where I don't know.
Q: Is a visa required for a traveler with a US passport?
A: According to the Haitian embassy in Washington, DC, yes. http://www.haiti.org/general_information/visa_en.htm
Q: How much are the tickets? Is there a discount for a round-trip ticket?
A: No discounts afaik, contact Caribe Tours for prices. www.caribetours.com.do (the site seems to be down as of 8:44 am CET).
However, there are minibuses going from the cities closer to the border that might go frequently than Caribe Tours. They don't have websites or contact numbers, afaik.
