Alicante Dinner for one
Posted: Sun November 25, 2007 01:49 PM UTC
Hi I'm planning to spend a long weekend in Alicante, mainly to relax and EAT. I love paella but in other parts of Spain I've been to restaurants often require a min. of 2 for paella. Does anyone know any restaurant in Alicante that serves paella for one?
Thanks

It is difficult to find a restaurant where paella is served for only one person. The reason is the size of the recipient, called paella as well. The smallest ones are for 2 - 3 plates. You should order a paella for 2 people and eat the quantity you want. The same happens with "fideua".
In case you go to a place where the day menu is paella, the cook prepares bigger paellas and they serve platefuls from them.

I know a place, but I can't remember the name offhand - I'll see if I can find it. I can tell you where it is though - if you're facing the gates of the MARQ museum, go left to the corner (it's a T intersection, away from the castle) and take a right. Just across the street you'll find a very busy hole in the wall cafeteria. The food is excellent and very cost effective as compared to the downtown places. Best time to go is Saturday around noon. Beware of the Spanish eating times as they don't really do a "dinner" per se.
