Hi,
February is the hottest month in Mauritius. The exchange rate for pound sterling is very interesting as you will get more than 60 rupees for 1 pound. The best place to stay is at a hotel beach especially in the north region. By the way hotel price is a bit expensive but good service.

Hello, if February is the only time you can come then so be it, but as the other poster said, it is the hottest month, the temperatures are actually not that high but the humidity is extreme and can be very uncomfortable if you are not used to it. Also it is cyclone season. Having said that do not let the weather dictate your holiday just be prepared for it and accept it as part of the experience. Mauritius can be outrageously expensive or very, very reasonable - it depends what sort of accommodation and activities you are looking for. I recently did some research for some friends who will visit in January and you can get a 7 star hotel room for 3,500 Euro's per night! or a small old style, but clean, beach front 2 bedroom cottage for about 50 Euro's per night (or even less)and everything in between. Eating out can be very inexpensive if you go to small local style restaurants or very expensive if you go to hotels or fancy restaurants. Staying and eating at the lower end of the market is the best way to experience the local culture and meet local people - if you stay in one of the big hotels you will experience luxury but maybe not really Mauritius. Public bus services run regularly and are inexpensive, just quite an experience as the Mauritian drivers are some of the worst I have ever seen anywhere in the world. You can also hire a car for about 20 Euro's a day, the roads are good, but as I have already said the drivers are crazy! Most places in Mauritius are not overcrowded except some of the public beaches on weekends and public holidays as the locals love to gather for picnics at the beach; even then it is quite a colourful spectacle of local culture. You british pounds will go far in Mauritius - enjoy and have fun!
Cheers, Judy.
