| Arenal | PLACES TO STAY,THINGS TO DO? Posted: Sat November 24, 2007 01:38 AM UTC
HELLO,
WOULD ANYBODY OUT THERE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ABOUT WHERE TO STAY AND WHAT TO DO WHEN WHEN IN ARENAL COSTA RICA. WE WILL BE GOING IN JULY 2008? WE WERE WONDERING ABOUT THE SPRINGS? TABACON VS BALDI WE HAD READ BAD THINGS ABOUT TABACON DATED 2005 AND WONDER IF ANY BETTER NOW? WE ARE NOT SURE OF THE LOCATION TO STAY. MAYBE ARENAL LODGE VS OBSERVATORY LODGE? ANY NICE LOCAL PLACES TO EAT? THANKS IN ADVANCE, SAMTIMFAM |

Hi
We stayed at the Arenal Volcano Inn when we were there last year . We really liked it and had a wondeful view of the volcano . I have pictures on my travel pages http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/a3065/192d4e/3/ They have a nice restaurant there too with a good view.

Arenal Paraiso is a popular place to stay. I have stayed there a couple of times. They have their own zip line, warm springs and hiking trail.
The Observatory is probably one of the best places for lava viewing right now but it is a ways out from town on a rough unpaved road. If you have a car it would probably work out better. Tabacon is a big expensive tourist spot. Lots of people. It is pretty at night with lights on the paths and around the different pools but it can get crowded. Baldi is the less expensive place in the area. Not real highly thought of but they did some upgrading not long ago and I hear it is much better. Another option would be Eco Thermales. You need reservations for that one as they only allow about 100 people in at a time. A nice option if you just want a nice quiet soak. I like El Novillo on the main road between Arenal Paraiso and Tabacon. There are several good places right in town.
