There are several daily buses from Catania Central Station (Piazza della stazione) to Taormina/Giardini. It takes about 90 minutes -2 hours. From the airport there are public buses to the central station. There may also be direct buses from the airport (like during the summer season)

Hi, If you google Satellite map of Piazza Duomo, Catania, Sicily you will see there is a treed park just below it on the map. There are busses that leave from a large bus stop near there that go to Taormina every couple of hours. As you can will see it is not far from the wharf area. I think you will find it very easy to walk from the wharf to the bus stop. They are very helpful at the bus stop. Safe travels

As you can see on the maps at www.viamichelin.com , the wharf area appears to be at the Circumvallazione di Via Dusmet. As the previous poster said, the Piazza Duomo is a few hundred meters to the northwest.
Note that the main train station is just under a kilometer to the northeast along Via 7 Aprile. From this train station, trains leave once or twice an hour for Taormina, and the trip takes 40-55 minutes. The fare is 3.50 euro on the regional trains each way (there are a few higher-priced trains along this route, but the time difference is not very much). Hmmmn, it looks like there is a "Metro" that runs from the port to the train station, if you don't want to walk. The Metro appears to be an above ground train at this point. It runs every 15 minutes or so, because there is a single rail line farther up the line (i.e., you can walk to the train station faster than that ;-) ). You can read about this at http://www.circumetnea.it/ . Otherwise, there is likely bus service along here...see www.amt.ct.it for the city's public transit wesbite... Bill

Pierre, http://www.interbus.it/ will give you an interactive bus time table with whatever departure &/or arrival points you wish to use. Be advised that the train station at Taormina is at sea level and requires either bus or taxi to get up the hill (unless you are both very fit & need exercise). The bus station at Taormina is only a short walk to the northern gate of the town. regards pedro
